The Laplace transform is a well established mathematical technique for solving differential equations. It is named in honor of the great French mathematician, Pierre Simon De Laplace (). Like all transforms, the Laplace transform changes one signal into another according to some fixed set of rules or equations. Laplace transforms are a type of integral transform that are great for making unruly differential equations more manageable. Simply take the Laplace transform of the differential equation in question, solve that equation algebraically, and try to find the inverse transform.
